Collaborative programmes with Govt.of Punjab and other Academies :
Under this scheme, the Academy organises programmes in collaboration with Govt.of Punjab, North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, Sahitya Akademy and other Academies of Govt.of NCT of Delhi etc. The interaction with Govt Deptts and other Academies provides an opportunity to cross section of society and particularly Punjabi Writers, Scholars, cultural experts to interact for the improvement of Punjabi language, literature and culture.
Preservation & Documentation of Punjabi Language & Culture :
The Academy has produced five video Documentaries based on the works of famous Punjabi writers. About 20 Umatic Cassettes of Punjabi Folklore have also been produced and Preserved for our archieval value.
Grass Root Level Development :
While maintaining its leading role in the promotion and preservation of Punjabi culture, the Academy has assumed a fundamental responsibility for the development of the Punjabi language at the grassroots level.
The Academy provides teachers in schools run by the Directorate of Education, Govt.of NCT of Delhi/MCD/NDMC/Aided School on specific demand from the Principal of Schools. The idea is to supplement efforts to meet the demand for education. The Principals are required to apply for the teacher in the following format:
Regular Punjabi Teaching Centres:
The Academy arranges crash courses for students,where Punjabi teaching facilities are not available in their schools. Besides, regular Adult Punjabi Teaching Centres are run in different localities with the help of N.G.O.s. But only such students are enrolled in these centres, who had not learnt Punjabi in any class at any stage.
Young Talent Awards :
For the real flowering of talents in the sphere of literature, it is essential to encourage excellent performance and healthy competition at all levels to spot real talent and nurture the same. Prizes are given to students who secure 75% marks and above in Punjabi language in Secondary, Senior Secondary Examination of the Board, graduate, Post-Graduate of the University and those who stand first in B.Ed. Examination. On an average, the total number of awardees ranges from 750 to 800 every year. Cash awards of Rs.1000/- are given for first position and Rs.800/- for IInd Position.
Competitions :
Apart from the awards, the Academy organises Declamation, Poetry Recitation, Essay Writing Contest in the schools at District and State level. In addition, competitions in Punjabi Folk Dances Bhangras, Gidha and folk songs are arranged at schools/college/University level. On special request, the Academy also arranges coach & drummer for 20 days in schools/ colleges free of charge. Winners of such contests/competitions are awarded with cash prizes, certificates and pleaques.
Computer Training in Punjabi :
Keeping in view the shortage of Punjabi typists, Stenographers and Computer Operaters in Punjabi the Academy has started training courses. The candidates are selected for these training on interview basis. There are total 30 seats in each course. The duration of computer training is one year. Succesful candidates are given certificates after the completion of the training programme.
- The candidates should be resident of Union Territory of Delhi.
- He/She should have passed Senior Secondary or its equalvent examination with Punjabi as a subject.
- Should have working knowledge of Hindi & English
- Maximum age limit is 30 years.
Support to Punjabi Writers, Artists, Journalists
Awards for Excellence:
The Academy confer two Life-time Achievement Awards for contribution to Punjabi Literature and also Life-time Achievement Award for contribution to Culture. They are honoured with Rs.1,50,000/- cash, a citation and Plaque of the Academy in a special function every year.
Other Awards:
The Academy also gives away awards in the fields of Literature, Translation, Punjabi Media, Journalism and Music every year. The awardees are honoured with a cash Award of Rs.50,000/- each, a Citation and a Plaque of the Academy.
Prizes for Books :
The best books of the year, in Punjabi literature, is honoured with cash prize of Rs.50,000/- and a plaque of the Academy.
Rules and Regulations for prizes on books :
- Books of only Delhi Resident writers are eligible for the Awards/Prizes of the Academy.
- The books published between Ist January to 31st December are considered for the award.
- Only the first edition of the book is considered.
- One writer can submit only one book.
- The book submitted through the Publisher, Printer or the Distributor must contain the written request of the writer.
- The Academy is free to consider the books which are not submitted by Authors and are available with the Academy from any other sources.
- The translated / edited books are not considered.
- One author can be honoured once in three years.
- The decision of the Academy will be final.
The Books are invited through advertisement in newspapers. The Authors are required to submit two copies of the book along with two passport size photographs.
Financial Assistance to aged writers or their dependents who are in indigent circumstances:
Fully aware of harsh realities of life, the Punjabi Academy provides financial assistance to senior writers, Artists and Poets who had contributed for the enrichment of Punjabi language, literature and culture during their life time but now they or their dependents are in indigent circumstances. Each one of them is provided financial assistance @ Rs.6,600/- per month. At present, three beneficiaries are being paid.
Eligibility Criteria :
- The applicant should be an established author/journalist who has contributed for the enrichment of Punjabi language, literature and culture.
- Only Delhi-based writers are entitled to this facility.
- The applicant's income should not exceed Rs.1,00,000/- per annum.
Purchase of Books directly from the Authors :
To eliminate the exploitation of creative writers by the Publishers, the Academy purchases books in bulk directly from the authors and distributes them free to college and school libraries.
Rules and Regulations :
- The books published during the last three years are considered for purchase under this scheme.
- Only one title of a writer is purchased during the financial year.
- 50-100 copies of each title are purchased as per standard and utility of the book.
- Books are purchased after deducting 40% discount
Financial Assistance for publication of books:
The authors are required to submit 2 copies of book for consideration alongwith an application in the prescribed proforma.
The authors are required to submit their manuscripts alongwith the application on prescribed proforma for such assistance. The financial assistance is paid on the recommendations of the Research and Publication Sub-Committee which are approved by the Governing Council of the Academy.
Rules and Regulations :
- Manuscripts of only Delhi based writers are considered under this scheme.
- The author will submit a proof of residence that he is residing in Delhi for the last three years.
- The manuscript should be typed or neatly hand written .
- The author must keep one copy of the manuscript with him as the manuscript submitted to Academy is retained for the Academy's archives.
- No changes or alterations are allowed after the submission of the manuscript. In case of any alteration, the Academy will have the right to stop the payment of the assistance.
- If any author wanted to withdraw his script before the decision of the Academy, he will be free to do so.
- Thesis/Desertations are not considered under this scheme.
The authors are required to submit the published book within six months after the payment of first instalment of financial assistance.
Participation in book fairs :
In order to attract buyers and propagate its publication, the Academy participates in Book Fairs at all India level organised by institutions like Book Trust of India. The Academy at its own, organises Book Fairs and invites other Publishers for participation at free of cost.
Release of books :
The books published by the Academy are released at regular intervals by prominent literary celebrities to attract the attention of publishers, booksellers, scholars and other readers and to enlighten them about the Academy's publications.
Reference Library :
The Academy has established a reference library. Special efforts are baring made to collect rare books and manuscripts, encyclopedia, documents including translation. The Academy is slowly but steadily building up a good Reference Library where Research Scholars will wave sufficent material for their research work. Till date our reference library is well equiped with 15000 books covering vivid subjects.
